Angus MacLise: Astral Collapse (Quakebasket, 2003) CD
We acquired these direct from Tim, his family and Bundy Brown!! Want to make sure we keep these titles in circulation, as we remain big fans of both Tim Barnes and his Quakebasket label.
This CD was issued in the middle of Quakebasket’s archival work with Hetty MacLise. And on Astral Collapse Maclise recites poetry, presents tape collage, and some early extended synth techniques, plus harmonium.
"Smothered Under Astral Collapse" offers an explanation of Tibetan rituals, before engaging in an Innersystems-like tape splices.
"Cloud Watching" offers calm echoing, using gongs, bells, and strings.
"Dracula" begins with tape collage and tambour, the sounds of birds and field recordings.
"6th Face of the Angel" is the highlight, a hypnotic piece for organ (played by MacLise's wife, Hatty) and tape delay!
